In the beginning..

You may already know that coffee is harvested from a tree in the form of a cherry or berry. I have always called it a berry but know that either term is correct. Coffee is still one of the few products that is still hand picked. This ensures that the berries are not destroyed in the process. After this it may undergo a wet process by which it is soaked for around two days to allow the berries and seeds to separate and ferment. Then the resulting beans are dried. The other process is a dry process. The coffee berries are spread out to dry for 2-3 weeks and then the pulp is removed from the seeds.
Coffee Berries

I've recently started on a new roasting adventure. You see since the beginning of my coffee days I have always gone to the local market and purchased what seemed to be the best choice of coffee. As time went on I realized the benefit of buying whole bean coffee and grinding it at home. I purchased a grinder and took time learning the perfect setting for my coffee press and home brewing system. What an adventure! No I feel I have reached a new point. I know have what I call a personal roaster. What is that you might say? Well I say its like a personal shopper but for coffee. They run a small family owned business and roast excellent coffee. So when I'm in need of coffee I simply tell my roaster and he roasts it and sends it within 2 days. 2 days, you cannot get much fresher than that.
